Good questions Emma.

Japanese people really keep themselves to themselves, and the few mothers and babies in the emergency ward all hide behind the curtains of their semi-private rooms. I'm sure Mami will leave the hospital without knowing the other mothers, or their babies, at all. It's kind of sad, but that's how it goes here.

Registration shouldn't be a problem. I'll just let my wife go to the city hall and add him to the family register. If I went, I'd have to jump through hoops!

As for waiting outside, no it's not the custom, though I think many wives in Japan prefer their husbands to wait behind the door. Our case was a little different. Given the circumstances of my wife's pregnancy, and that she gave birth in the emergency ward, I was actually surprised the doctor gave me permission to go in... but Mami's word was the one that mattered.

Loved all the comments here Nick and shows what decent friends you have!! Hope things are going well and will no doubt talk to you later this week!
Don't stress and try to get some sleep haa haa haa. I'm still out on who the little fella looks like and I'm sure as the next couple of weeks go by, Rikuto will start looking more and more like either his daddy or mummy. I say this because I remember how everyone was out on Jodie's first for at least the first couple of weeks and then Alisa started looking more and more like her mum!
Either way fine looking little lad who has made you both extremely proud already. Of course I will saddle myself with teaching the little fella all about the naughty things in life haa haa haa and can't wait to take him down the local for a man-to-man talk and of course a few beers!!!
