This weekend, the annual Bilderberg conference gets underway at a fancy hotel in Chantilly, Virginia, in the United States. You could argue that this meeting is more significant than the G8 summit and even the U.S. presidential elections, but chances are, you’ve never even heard of it.
Bilder-what?
Founded in 1954, the Bilderberg Group is the superclass of modern society, a group of the world’s most influential politicians, business owners, royalty, military leaders and media giants. Every year, over one hundred of them gather together to discuss, and possibly even plan, world events.
For an idea of just who attends these meetings, take a quick look at the list of Bilderberg attendees from previous conferences. How can this possibly avoid media attention?
Never heard of Bilderberg?
That’s not surprising. A gathering of pop stars or top athletes would almost certainly hit the front page of most newspapers, but despite the people involved, it’s rare for Bilderberg to even get a mention. In fact, so far this year, only a Portuguese newspaper has mentioned the conference.
The secrecy under which the Bilderberg Group operates gives reason to be suspicious. Are they acting as a shadow government? Conspiracy theorists often describe Bilderberg as puppeteers, pulling the strings of politicians around the world to achieve their goals of a one world government, or a New World Order.
I would prefer to believe that Bilderberg was a think tank for solving the world’s problems, but I find it more likely that whatever they discuss is intended to benefit no-one but themselves.
What’s your reaction?
If this is the first time you’ve heard of Bilderberg, I encourage you to do some research, then come back and answer this question for me.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Bilderberg, particularly why the media gives so little attention to the group.

You are definitely right Nick, it makes no sense that there is no coverage of this event. I really don’t know what they are doing but because they seem to be so good at not attracting attention they must be up to no good. The key thing here is that these people wield an incredible amount of power, yet when 200 of them get together nothing is said. It does not make sense!
I can’t vote here because the two choices are quite broad in scope. I mean, you have the Bilderberg group, which is just a group that has always sought to promote some kind of union between America and Europe. Then you have the Trilateral Commision, which is the same, but also includes Japan. Actually, it was proposed that Japan be included in the Bilderberg group, but that idea was quickly thrown out, leading to the development of the Trilateral commission.
Therefore, if the Bilderbergs have failed to realize the importance of Japan in the world, I’d say they’re just a bunch of mostly impotent, rich farts who’d like to think they represent the cream of the intelligentsia crop but who actually represent a dying school of thought.
Originally when I heard Nick talk about this group, I thought he was talking about a bunch of Elves from some strange computer extra worldy thingy.
After reading this blog, I now realise that yes I have heard of them but knew extremely little about this group. I did some of my own research (Which too was limited) and feel on the surface at least, they are self-serving and surely must have some affect on global instability.
Leaders of commerce and governments having secret meetings must cause some concern. Most of the people who attend these meeting thrive on public exposure so why is it all so secret??
Will continue to do some research as it is all very interesting!!
Hey Keith, the first part of this comment cracked me up. You so funny!
Ah, more conspiracies. Makes life more interesting, I guess.
Deas, if you think the Bilderberg conference is nothing more than an innocent get together of “impotent, rich farts” as Billy put it, please explain to me why the media do not cover it. Is it not important? During an election year, you might expect the media to at least report on whether the candidates would be attending or not. Surely you don’t deny the conference is taking place?
Maybe it’s a coincidence but the BBC is reporting…
and…
Is it not unreasonable to think they will both attend Bilderberg (also in Virginia) this weekend? The media silence is deafening.
I don’t mean to discredit anyone…But, I think that’s always happen when peoples with power gathering. It’s not only happen to Bilderberg, but most every organization with politician and militery members…
I’m not sure if I have heard of this group or not, but I read a book called “Who Rules America” that was along the same lines. Here is the author’s website if anyone is interested.

Also, “Who Owns America” is very good as well, though written in the 30’s.
I checked the list of attendees and was a little surprised to see Melinda Gates was there. Bill I would expect, but Melinda tends to be more on the charitable side usually.
It doesn’t look like she’s on the official list for Bilderberg 2008, so maybe it’s not her kind of thing after all.
Nick, even if the news did some serious feature reports on the Bilderberg meeting, what would come of it? Most people would shrug their shoulders. And, even if some scary dealings were exposed, it’s doubtful anything would change.
If it’s just a matter of wanting to know the truth, let me say this:
You can’t handle the truth!
No, just kidding. I’ve always wanted to say that. But, really there are enough pieces out there to put most of the puzzle together; It’s unlikely that we’ll ever know the entire story, though.
You’re probably right, but I can’t help but find this all truly bizarre. I was just watching a CNN video of journalists angry at Obama’s spokesman, Robert Gibbs, for being so secretive about Obama’s secret meeting with Clinton… yet none of these so-called journalists can put the puzzle pieces together, or they just wouldn’t dare.
Anyone who is interested in learning more about the Bilderberg Group as well as other groups who operate largely for their own benefit and not for the benefit of society on the whole should have a look at Alex Jones, a journalist from the US. His documentary titled “Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement” features a number of scenes shot in Ottawa, Canada at the 2007 Bilderberg meetings and includes interviews with a variety of other investigative journalists who have spent much of their careers researching the Bilderberg Group and its members.
