If you’ve never really explored Google Video, you might be very surprised by the nature of the Top 10 Most Viewed videos. I’ve looked at the rankings for the U.S, the U.K, and Japan, and although you might expect videos of Britney Spears or some other form of fast-food entertainment, the most viewed videos are almost entirely documentaries, lectures and presentations of a similar nature. Here are the top 10 from Japan:

Conspiracies abound
Five out of the top ten this month are different versions of “The Global Warming Swindle”, a short documentary that argues COﾂｲ is not the cause of global warming. I guess there are a lot of Japanese people who are fed up with the incessant propaganda that dominates TV these days, and are researching it for themselves.
Richard Koshimizu and Abe Yoshihro both talk about the New World Order, a shadow government that controls media, politics, business and more on a global scale. If you’re shocked by oil prices, food prices, wars and global warming, documentaries about history’s greatest conspiracy might help you make sense of this mad world we live in.
Finally, at No.5 this month is Loose Change, the original and most popular 9/11 Truth documentary.

To be honest, I don’t know if I’m that interested. I don’t believe everything the mainstream media tells me but if I believe in what these sources are saying than everything is just a lie and it makes things even more confusing. It just starts to get really depressing. I know I should care and I do but if I think too much I’ll start painting my walls black and start listening to goth music.

Great advice from the main stream media controlled by who, oh yeah, Big Oil and Big Brother! Just keep your heads in the sand everyone. Global Warming is just a bunch of tree hugger propaganda.
But then again at this point we may as well do nothing since things have more than likely gone way past the point of actual making changes that could have prevented the disasters that are just around the corner for us.
Wow - I usually make snarky comments on your entries about conspiracy stuff.
But instead I’ll be a hypocrite this time and say that I’ve watched The Great Global Warming Swindle and I liked it, despite its shoddy production. (I’ve also seen Loose Change, but that one doesn’t sway me at all. I think that all it does is cement the notion that propaganda affects my thinking positively on things I’m already inclined to believe and makes me shrug at the other stuff.) Anyhoo - interesting.
My question - are the versions of these videos (I hesitate to call either of them “documentaries”) being watched from Japan in Japanese or in English? Fansubbed? Dubbed? What? Just curious. The expatriate population could be contributing to the views. That’s all I was thinking.

Maybe you’re right, Nick, and the public is sick of being fed propaganda and they’re looking it up for themselves. (By finding more propaganda, just in the opposite direction. Ha ha ha.) Anyhoo - sorry for the blogspam.
You probably think I watch these videos and believe everything they say, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I actually try to verify the claims they make.
As for 9/11, nobody wants to believe Loose Change, but the official explanation just falls apart when you study it closely. If you’d like to help me understand your reasons for believing the Osama bin Laden story, I’d welcome that.
I have watched a couple of the global warming videos and I am beginning to change my mind about co2 emmissions

We need more people and all. (Unless…ahem…you mean you are convinced now that anthropogenic global warming is an inevitable impending catastrophe. In which case, sorry for the assumption.)
Global warming videos show a fact which is so different with what I previously know.
Well, I hope you guys are right, but from what I’ve read the current Global Warming trend we are experiencing has been mainly caused by humans.
But I also have to ask, why wouldn’t we want to reduce CO2 out put? It definately causes dangerous pollution, acid rain, and ugly skylines all over the world. Getting ourselves off of oil should be a major priority, but judging from the G8 Summit economics for the rich have once again stolen the day.
The alternative theory about global warming is something to do with an increase in “sunspots” (planet-sized explosions on the sun’s surface). We all know that the sun generates warmth, so it seems to make sense that activity on the sun would affect temperatures on Earth. It would also explain why Mars and other planets are (supposedly) warming up, too.
If it is true that the sun, not COﾂｲ, is responsible for global warming, then we are being lied to. I’m sure everyone is happy to reduce pollution, but we are unhappy about being lied to, the fear mongering, and then the threat of various greenhouse gas taxes (e.g. ‘green’ car tax).
What about all the scientists that blame COﾂｲ? These seem to be “singalong” scientists that give support to the people who are funding their research. Here’s a great article to show how authority figures are used in the media to support a government’s cause.
Anyway, my point is yes we should cut pollution, but we shouldn’t be subject to all this “eco” propaganda based on junk science.
My point is that this drive to ignore Global Warming seems to me to be an attempt by Big Oil to convince us to continue using fossil fuels rather than develop cheap, enviromentally safe, and reusuable sources of energy. If the last three decades of idiot presidents from my country would have realized this many of the current disasters and looming ones might have and may been avoided. Jimmy Carter was right to put solar panels on the White House and Ronnie was a fool to take them down.
Maybe we are being lied to by both sides, but it does seem odd that the planet began an before unheard of continous warming trend about the same time the Industrial Revolution started.
As far as the Warming Sun theory, it’s base seems to be built on a rubbage heap as well.

Thanks Steve, I read the article, and it raises some good points. There do seem to be two sides with conflicting stories, both of which have truth in them. COﾂｲ does trap heat which contributes to global warming. How much is debatable. Likewise the sun does influence temperatures, but how much is also debatable. To further confuse our understanding, some scientists are predicting the earth will cool over the next ten years, and in 1974 Times magazine warned of a coming Ice Age!
When in doubt, blame the New World Order. That’s what I do. Let’s look at those evil men in the shadows and see what they have said in the past on this subject (from here):
