My SWCMS Modules
Japan’s English social bookmarking site, JapanSoc.com, is built on the Social Web Content Management System, or SWCMS. That means, I’m frequently contributing modules to the SWCMS open source community.
For anyone interested in learning how to make SWCMS or Pligg modules, please read my Module Development Guide. Although, intended for Social Web CMS, much of it applies to Pligg modules, too.
Here are the modules I’ve made so far:
Smilies Module
- Let your SWCMS users add Wordpress-style smiley faces to their comments.

RSS Basic Module
- Import RSS feeds into your SWCMS template, and allow users to import a feed into their profiles.

Random Message Module
- Create “messages” and display them randomly. Your messages can include HTML, PHP, Flash, etc. so you can use thismodule to randomly display advertising, widgets, tips, images, anything really.

Sin Bin Module
- Temporarily disable users instead of banning them completely.

Block Discarded Stories Module
- If your users bury a story, you don’t want someone submitting it again. This module will block them.

Simple Messaging Module
- I improved the original module with bulk message deletion, an outbox, and email notification.

RSS Comments Module
- Creates an RSS feed for tracking new comments.

Submission Approval Module
- New users must have their first story approved before it’s shown on the site.

Related Links on Submission Module
- Shows related links on the final step of the story submission process so that users can check to see if the same story has already been submitted.

Tweet This! Module
- Adds a “Tweet this!” link below each story which, when clicked, generates a shortened url and posts it with the story title to the user’s Twitter page.

LC Category Manager Module
- An alternative to the built-in category manager. Features automatic sorting, batch editing and multi-level categories.

Scores Modification
- Not a module, but an extra file that modifies Karma to calculate and show points instead.

Gravatar Module
- Give your SWCMS users the option of using Gravatar for their avatar.
