My Official Net Buddy 4 Life

A message from Michael McKinlay

Today is Nick Ramsay’s birthday and because of this special day, I, Michael McKinlay, am guest authoring his blog. Nick is now 33 years old and over the past couple of years, I’ve really gotten to know Nick. So much so that I am his official net buddy 4 life. Don’t believe me? Why don’t you google “net buddy 4 life” and see what you get? Yep, it’s official. Our mantra much like Will Smith’s movie Bad Boys is “we surf together, we crash together!” Hmmm sounds a bit nerdy but I assure you that Nick is a bigger nerd than I am!

Anyway as you may have read Nick is moving his websites to his own virtual server. It sounds like its going to be messy but I’m sure he’ll get the job done! It’s unfortunate though since nobody will be able to comment on his blog until the process is completed, and who knows when that will be!

Nick is a stay at home dad in Japan of all places! Oh, he still has a job but it’s out there in cyberspace where electrons and neutrons clash to form the time vortex known as the internet. Nick has done quite a bit on the internet since giving up his day job and it will be interesting to see what he has going the next time his birthday comes around. Hmmmm I wonder…. I wonder!!!

Thanks NB4L! The server change is underway. Most of my sites now working on the new server. A few more to go, a few bugs to fix, and I’ve got to get my email working again, but hopefully it will all be done much sooner than expected, then I’ll open up the comments again. Update: Comments now open.

LongCountdown Turns 2 Years Old

It slipped me by this year, but on September 23rd, this blog turned two. That’s not long, but with the millions of blogs that don’t even last a year, it probably puts this site in the top 5% for blog longevity.

What I’m lacking though is post longevity, as these blog posts are getting shorter and shorter..

Happy Birthday LC! Without you, I’d have no fans! :-P

Rikuto’s First Birthday

It’s been a whole year since Mami was whisked off to hospital in an ambulance as Rikuto made a rather dramatic entrance into the world. Boy, they sure grow up fast!

We took the little “Person of Continents” to our local shopping center to have a really cheapskate party in front of the birthday party goods in the toy section.

He then went for a ride in a flashy, red sports car!

After he drove us home, we had a video conferencing party with Granny and Grandad Don Don, and somehow Rikuto managed to blow out the candles on a cake in England!

Blowing out a candle in another continent is one thing, but his grandmother couldn’t get the cake down the telephone line and Rikuto got a bit upset. Fortunately, we had a cake of our own for him.

At the end of the day, our little one-year old was quite content with his first birthday.

For his family on the other side of the world who haven’t been able to watch hime grow up quite as we have, here’s a video compilation of footage from July 2008. It’s quite long, so you might want to make a cup of tea first.

The next year should be very exciting as Ricky learns to walk and talk! Stay tuned for more updates.

Happy Birthday! Let’s Disco!

October 14th marks my 32nd birthday, and that just makes me want to dance! You last saw me dancing with little Rikuto, but today it’s time to strut my stuff on the dancefloor with my wife. Enjoy the video!

Thank you to those of you who sent me cards and emails. Much appreciated!

Happy Birthday LongCountdown!

Today marks the first anniversary of starting this blog. Can you believe it’s been a year already? The first year saw Mami and I buy a house and have a baby, and while that will be hard to top, the next year should make for very interesting reading, particularly if you’re following the progress of our son, Rikuto.

There have been exactly 153 posts and 300 comments so far. I’d like to thank fellow Kakamigahara blogger, Jason Irwin for the 300th comment. Jason recently married into a Japanese family and among his many science and technology articles, he writes about his new life in Japan. Take a look at Jason’s Random Thoughts.

If you’d like to catch up on the last year, you should read LC’s 100th post, which highlights the best articles from the first hundred posts, and then look through the latest articles on the archives page.

To celebrate LongCountdown’s birthday, I got to together with Mami, Rikuto, our friend Keith and my Net Buddy 4 Life, Michael McKinlay, for a little song and dance. Enjoy the video.
