A New Challenge: Extreme Ironing

I can’t iron. Well I can, but my shirts usually come out looking worse off than they were before I started. Hey, it’s not my fault, it’s the clothing manufacturers, right? If they can’t even make a no-wrinkle shirt…

Unlike me, some men absolutely love ironing so much that they take this passion to extremes. So, extreme, it’s Extreme Ironing

the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.

According to Wikipedia,

Some locations where such performances have taken place include a mountainside of a difficult climb; a forest; in a canoe; while skiing or snowboarding; on top of large bronze statues; in the middle of a street; underwater; whilst parachuting; under the ice cover of a lake; and in warzones.

The Mainichi Daily News reported that Japanese Hitoshi Matsuzawa, 38-year old founder of Extreme Ironing Japan, climbed Japan’s highest mountain, Mount Fuji, “shouldering an ironing board and a generator weighing about 25 kilograms”.

Matsuzawa said of his accomplishment, “There was a therapeutic effect and sense of fulfillment of being on Japan’s highest peak”.

I’m almost tempted to take up ironing myself!
