Baby in Progress – Two weeks to go!

July 31st is the due date for our firstborn child, Rikuto, and that date is getting very close now. With less than two weeks to go, I thought I’d take a video of my wife’s tummy, so you can see the baby move around for yourselves! You may have to watch it a couple of times before you notice the movement, and I couldn’t catch the best of it on video, but you should get the idea.

Mami says it hurts a little when he’s kicking, but she’s used to it now. Unfortunately, he’s most active in the middle of the night, and I took this video early in the morning when neither of us could sleep. I guess you could call it practice for the real sleepless nights ahead of us.

Be warned that one of my friends freaked out when he first saw this, so if you didn’t like the Alien movies, don’t press play!

Baby in Progress – 9 months pregnant

It’s been a while since my wife and I got a decent picture of our baby boy from the maternity clinic, but now we finally have one that doesn’t look like a cloudy bowl of miso soup.

In my post “Making the Baby Bed“, I talked about how pregnancy in Japan lasts 10 months, so although Mami is nine months pregnant, she’s actually only in week 33, with another six or seven weeks to go.

Let’s go back in time to when Mami was nine weeks pregnant. Rikuto was the cutest kid at the clinic, wearing what looked like a Lego helmet…

Rikuto - the Lego man!

Now, at nine months, you can see how much he has grown. He looks a little camera shy, covering his face with his arm, but other than that, he’s apparently healthy and progressing well…

Rikuto - 33 weeks

It actually looks as if he’s crying, but since his mum didn’t get much sleep last night, he’s more likely to be yawning…. “Someone turn off that light! I’m trying to get some sleep here!”

Riku is due on July 31st, and that’s not long now at all! I can’t wait!

Baby in Progress – 4 months pregnant

It’s been four months now since Mami became pregnant and I’ve been posting each time she’s come back from the clinic with a new photo. If you missed the previous posts, here are the photos so far. It’s fascinating to see how ‘Peanut’ has grown. We started at six weeks with nothing visible except for a tiny nutrient bag..

Just one week later and we got to see Peanut for the first time (the mouse-like blob on the right of the big black bubble thing (excuse my lack of scientific terminology!).

Peanut at seven weeks

After 9 weeks, Peanut was quite visible with his or her little arms and legs and Lego-style helmet.

Now at 4 months, Peanut has grown substantially. The photo is a bit naff, but you can see him or her hiding behind the big, lumpy lump thing. Apparently Peanut is still only about seven centimeters tall (long?), but his or her mum’s tummy is now beginning to show. Fortunately, Peanut is not as camera shy as Mami, so doesn’t mind me posting these pics!

Baby in Progress – Week 9

Mami is in her third month of labor now, and ‘Peanut’ is making some great progress. You can now clearly see his or her head, hands and feet! It’ll be another month before Mami goes back to the clinic so I can’t wait to see how much Peanut will have grown by then. Stay tuned!

Baby in Progress – Week 7

Mami has been back to the clinic and had another scan. Peanut (working title!) is currently in his or her seventh week, and is starting to look more and more like….erm… Casper the friendly ghost?

If you missed the last photo, “Peanut at 6 weeks”, here it is:

So apparently Peanut is the right-hand blur in the big black bubble. The circle on the left of Peanut is his or her ‘nutrient’ supply. If you stare very closely at your monitor, not only will you be able to see Peanut’s tiny, tiny hands and feet, but you’ll also get sore eyes…!

I’m gonna be a daddy!

I’m not sure how reliable these pregnancy tests are, but it looks like I’m going to be a daddy!

A happy daddy-to-be

What with the news yesterday that our mortgage request has been approved and now the likelyhood of Mami and I becoming parents next year, it’s been quite a weekend!

Sure, it could be a false alarm, but the test result is clear to see:

It's positive!
