Since I found out that I’m gonna be daddy, I’ve been posting pictures of the progress Peanut has been making. Today, Mami and I found out that Peanut is a boy! Neither of us minded either way, but I’m quite excited about the prospect of teaching him to ride a bike and play soccer.
We got loads of baby clothes from friends of Mami’s mum, but they’re all pink! Oh dear, Peanut, please forgive us! Hmm… maybe this will help him dance like his old man.
The best thing about today was I got to see a video of our little 12cm baby moving around inside Mami’s tummy. Because of work I couldn’t go to the maternity clinic with Mami, so seeing a videotape of him was great. If I can figure out a way to get the footage from the video player downstairs to my computer upstairs, I’ll post it on the net for you all to see. In the meantime, here are a couple of new pictures:
Peanut at 17 weeks
It’s been four months now since Mami became pregnant and I’ve been posting each time she’s come back from the clinic with a new photo. If you missed the previous posts, here are the photos so far. It’s fascinating to see how ‘Peanut’ has grown. We started at six weeks with nothing visible except for a tiny nutrient bag..
Just one week later and we got to see Peanut for the first time (the mouse-like blob on the right of the big black bubble thing (excuse my lack of scientific terminology!).
After 9 weeks, Peanut was quite visible with his or her little arms and legs and Lego-style helmet.
Now at 4 months, Peanut has grown substantially. The photo is a bit naff, but you can see him or her hiding behind the big, lumpy lump thing. Apparently Peanut is still only about seven centimeters tall (long?), but his or her mum’s tummy is now beginning to show. Fortunately, Peanut is not as camera shy as Mami, so doesn’t mind me posting these pics!
If you haven’t already subscribed to LongCountdown.com, please do so here, and keep up-to-date on the latest developments with Peanut, and of course my usual ramblings about Japan, ESL, and anything else that pops into my head.
Mami is in her third month of labor now, and ‘Peanut’ is making some great progress. You can now clearly see his or her head, hands and feet! It’ll be another month before Mami goes back to the clinic so I can’t wait to see how much Peanut will have grown by then. Stay tuned!

Mami has been back to the clinic and had another scan. Peanut (working title!) is currently in his or her seventh week, and is starting to look more and more like….erm… Casper the friendly ghost?
If you missed the last photo, “Peanut at 6 weeks”, here it is:

So apparently Peanut is the right-hand blur in the big black bubble. The circle on the left of Peanut is his or her ‘nutrient’ supply. If you stare very closely at your monitor, not only will you be able to see Peanut’s tiny, tiny hands and feet, but you’ll also get sore eyes…!
